 ch7

A total of 11 students from grades 6, 7 and 8 of last academic session, had gone on an educational trip to China from 9th- 17th April 2017, along with our principal, Dr. Shiba Thapa, and director, Mrs. Ela Piya. .  It is said that travel is the best form of education, and we believe that the trip proved to be a good educational experience for them. It was not only a review of what they had learned in their Grade 6 Social Studies curriculum, but was also an opportunity to soak in the rich culture and history of one of the oldest and most advanced civilizations of the world.

During the trip they visited many places on the list of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites like the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China. This was also an opportunity to compare and contrast the Chinese style of architecture and our own. They observed how the Chinese circular based pagoda temples differed from our square based pagodas.

They also visited the Art Gallery where they got to view the artwork and sculpture-work of many famous Chinese artists; the graffiti work there was of special interest to them. They also got to visit a Cloisonné factory and learn about ‘cloisonné’,an ancient technique of decorating metalwork objects that China is famous for.

Another site of interest to them was the White Pagoda Temple which was constructed by Arniko from Nepal and the Lama Temple where they got to see the huge statue of Buddha, which is said to be made of a single tree and is recorded in the Guinness world record.

Another thrilling experience for them was climbing the Great Wall of China, one of the country’s most famous tourist attractions and one of the greatest man-made wonders of the world. This was unforgettable experience for everyone.

On their return the students shared their experience with their classmates which was greatly appreciated by all who didn’t get this opportunity to observe one of the world’s most ancient civilization and cultures.

We thank all parents who supported the schools’ educational venture.
